My Story â From No English to RN Leader andÂ
Founder of Porto Helli LLCÂ
Ten years ago, I stepped off a plane in New York City with my husband and young son.Â
I didnât know much words of English. Everything around me felt loud, fast, and unfamiliar. IÂ
remember standing in the middle of the city, holding my sonâs hand, thinking,Â
âHow will I ever start over here?âÂ
But something deep inside me whispered, âOne step at a time.âÂ
That became my philosophy â for language, nursing, and life.Â
A New BeginningÂ
Back home in Ukraine, I had a comfortable life and a career as a wine production director. IÂ
understood leadership, teamwork, and dedication â but not the U.S. healthcare system,Â
and certainly not English medical terminology.Â
When my mother became ill with cancer, I witnessed firsthand the compassion and skill ofÂ
nurses who cared for her.Â
That experience changed everything.Â
I realized that healing people â not products â was my true calling.Â
So, I decided to become a nurse in a new country.Â
It wasnât easy. I attended English classes while raising a toddler, working nights, andÂ
studying medical terms, I couldnât yet pronounce. I failed some tests, cried more than once,Â
but I never stopped trying.Â
Finding My Voice and My PurposeÂ
When I entered nursing school at BMCC, I was terrified.Â
I questioned myself constantly: Am I too old to start over? Will anyone understand me?Â
But I focused on progress, not perfection. I made flashcards, studied between shifts, andÂ
practiced English by reading nursing books aloud.Â
Little by little, confidence replaced fear.Â
Eventually, I earned a 3.94 GPA and became a student mentor for others who wereÂ
struggling. I discovered that helping others believe in themselves gave me even more joyÂ
than my own success.
That was the seed of what would later become Porto Helli LLC â a place whereÂ
mentorship, compassion, and healing could live together.Â
Becoming a Nurse, Becoming a LeaderÂ
My first job as a registered nurse came with long shifts, challenging patients, and endlessÂ
lessons.Â
But every experience taught me something about teamwork, empathy, and leadership.Â
I listened to my patients, learned from every mistake, and treated every day as anÂ
opportunity to grow.Â
Today, Iâm a Registered Nurse Unit Manager in a subacute rehabilitation and nursingÂ
center.Â
I lead with the same values that carried me through my own journey:Â
EmpathyÂ
AccountabilityÂ
EducationÂ
RespectÂ
As a leader, I donât just manage nurses â I mentor them.Â
I teach them that true care starts with mindfulness, teamwork, and compassion forÂ
themselves as much as for their patients.Â
Porto Helli LLC â My Heart in a BrandÂ
Porto Helli LLC was born from a vision â to blend healthcare, mentorship, and holisticÂ
wellness.Â
The name reflects peace, balance, and transformation.Â
Through Porto Helli, I help nurses and communities grow through three pillars:Â
Empowering New Nurses â building confidence through mentorship and education.Â
Supporting Communities â teaching practical skills and emotional intelligence.Â

including aromatherapy and lifestyle care.Â
Itâs more than a business; itâs my mission to give others the guidance I once needed.Â
Â
For Every Immigrant Nurse and Dreamer
If youâve ever doubted yourself â I understand.Â
If youâve ever started from zero â Iâve been there.Â
If youâve ever felt unseen or unheard â I see you.Â
You can learn a new language.Â
You can change careers.Â
You can rebuild your life and become a leader, no matter where you started.Â
My journey is proof that courage grows when you take one small step at a time.Â
I started without English, without confidence, without a clear path.Â
Now I lead, teach, and create opportunities for others to rise â because I believe thatÂ
empowered nurses heal the world.
A Message from My HeartÂ
Every day, I remind myself â the same way I remind my mentees â that confidence is notÂ
something you find; itâs something you build.Â
Itâs built through late-night studying, small victories, and quiet determination.Â
I created Porto Helli LLC to be a safe space for learning, support, and wellness â whereÂ
nurses, caregivers, and families can grow together.Â
Wherever you are in your journey, remember:Â
Youâre capable.Â
Youâre needed.Â
Youâre stronger than you think.
Welcome to Porto Helli LLC â where healing, growth, and purpose begin.Â
â With love,Â
